And Bhutan, being a country high up on the Himalayas, is a perfect place to have adventure riding. The roads of Bhutan will take you over the high passes—some 4,000 meters above sea level—and also guide you through plain and flat lands, but for sure, they will usher you to the merriment. Itinerary
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport (2200 meters above sea level), proceed to Thimphu. On the way, visit the TaChog Monastery. After having lunch in Thimphu (2300 meters), drive to see the Golden Buddha Dordenma Statue, the National Memorial Chorten, and Takin Park. In the evening, enjoy a walk exploring the bustling streets of Thimphu.
Cycle to Cheri Monastery and explore the monastery. After lunch, continue cycling southward on paved roads, passing through various residential neighbourhoods and surrounding villages of Thimphu. Visit the majestic Tashichhodzong on your return journey.
Start your ride towards Punakha after breakfast. Along the way, visit the Victory Stupas at Dochula Pass. Then, stop at Chimmi Lhakhang, the Temple of Fertility. Upon arriving in Punakha (1200 meters), visit Punakha Dzong, strategically located at the confluence of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers. Afterward, take a walk across the 160-meter Pho Chhu Suspension Bridge.
After breakfast, cycle northward up the Punakha Valley and hike through fields of vegetables and small hamlets to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten. Continue with a sightseeing ride before enjoying a picnic lunch by the Mochhu River. In the afternoon, visit the Walakha Nuns’ University.
After lunch, travel from Punakha to Paro. Visit Paro Dzong, the National Museum, and Kyichu Lhakhang. In the evening, enjoy an orientation walk through Paro town.
Hike to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery (2900 meters). After lunch, enjoy a bicycle ride through the remote valleys of Paro. In the evening, relax with a hot-stone bath.
